Moviefone Arrives For iPad, Makes Finding Showtimes, Watching Trailers And Buying Tickets A Breeze

April 20, 2011
Moviefone, the popular and completely free movie discovery app for iPhone and iPod touch, is now available for iPad, complete with a brand new UI that makes finding showtimes, watching trailers and purchasing movie tickets an absolute breeze. When it comes to movie discovery apps in the App Store, there certainly isn't a shortage of them. The problem is that most of the free versions of these apps are cumbersome and laden with ads, but not Moviefone for iPad. This clean cut movie discovery app is visually appealing in both landscape and portrait orientations, and navigates just as well as it looks. Upon first launching Moviefone for iPad, you will be presented with a "What's New on Moviefone" news carousel, allowing you to keep up-to-date on everything movie related without having to dig too deep. Tapping on one of the images -- or anything else for that matter -- will cause a blade to slide in from the right side of the screen, feeding you with all of the information you could possibly desire. When you are finished looking everything over, you can just swipe left to right to push the blade back off of the screen. If you are a movie news junky, you can also just go straight to the news section by tapping on the tab on the left side of the screen. The main launch screen also displays movies that are currently in theaters, top box office movies with totals, movies that are coming soon, and movies now on DVD. You can swipe left and right to scroll through each list, or you can tap on the banner above a category to bring up filter options to help you narrow down your search. Of course, no movie discovery app is complete without a search function, and Moviefone allows you to find movies by title or by actor. Moviefone includes the ability to find theaters nearby and purchase tickets via MovieTickets.com as well. You can do so via that handy blade that slides in from the side of the screen -- as long as the movie is in theaters, of course -- or you can view a list of theaters including your favorites via the tab on the left side of the screen. No matter which route you take, you will be provided with a scrolling list of showtimes, the distance to the theater from your current location, and an address in case you are new to the area. I could keep going on and on about Moviefone's features, because there are many more of them, but features are relatively easy to cram into an app. What Moviefone for iPad is about is the navigation experience, and it certainly provides a clean and enjoyable one. If you haven't found the right movie discovery app for your iPad yet, you have to check out Moviefone for iPad. It's completely free, super easy to navigate, and loaded with features and information. What more could you ask for?
