Chopper 2 Developer Releases Sand Pictures, A New Interactive Entertainment App For iPad
May 18, 2011
Remember sand picture frames? Those executive toys that you used to mess around with as a kid? Well, Majic Jungle Software, the developer behind Chopper 2, has recreated the popular interactive toy in digital form, allowing you to play around with bubbles and sand in a whole new way on your iPad.
Sand Pictures is an interactive entertainment app that provides a realistic simulation of sand falling through liquid. It features nearly 100,000 individual particles that respond to your finger, bubbles, and gravity.
Spinning your iPad will result in the hundreds of bubbles jostling around and creating paths for the sand to fall through, or you can take the lazy route by tapping on the rotate button found in the menu bar to have the image flipped for you.
You are able to control the way the sand falls more directly by tapping on bubbles to pop them, tapping on an open space to create even more bubbles, or just by flicking the sand. Lighter sand particles will always fall a little slower than the darker ones, creating unique patterns as they settle.
Dragging two fingers up and down allows you to choose from the over 50 built-in sand color gradients, and you can swipe left or right with two fingers to bring up one of 20 included background images. Images can be imported from your library as well via the menu bar, where you can also save and share your them via a variety of methods.
Sand Pictures for iPad is without a doubt a novelty app, but if these interactive entertainment apps are your sort of thing, you absolutely have to give this one a try. It's now available in the App Store for the introductory price of $.99.
