Be Confident in Who You Are: A Middle School Co... ($3.99) by Electric Eggplant is another great resource that balances education and fun on the iPad.

The book has eight chapters on various issues that teens face on a regular basis. These include: not putting yourself down, what others think of you, losing your cool, making assumptions, and more. These topics are all relative to issues teens face everyday.

There is a regular cast of characters throughout each chapter, Jack, Jen, Chris, Abbey, Mateo and Michelle. Every teen should be able to relate to one of the characters in the story. Abbey is overweight, Mateo wants to be taller and Jen wants to be liked. Follow along as together they solve problems in their lives as teens do, and encourage each other to make healthy decisions.

The graphics are simple and beautiful sketches, that tell the story well. There are sounds in the background that nicely enhance the plot. For instance, when a few kids are playing basketball, you hear a dribbling ball in the background. The page swipe is also nice as the sound replicates a realistic page turn.

If you enjoy Be Confident In Who You Are, there are also paper books in the Middle School Confidential series that are worth checking out. Those can be found at your local bookstore.

Young teens are surrounded by negative voices that affect them emotionally and developmentally. Bullying has hit the headlines, whether it is on the bus or virtually through cyberspace. It is important for young people to have influences that reinforce positive thinking and behavior. For those schools that are using the iPad in the classroom, I hope this book is part of their curriculum.

For parents, this is a great way to encourage positive use of technology and healthy ”screen time.” Be Confident In Who You Are is another great app which balances education and fun on the iPad.
