May 5, 2011
Are you bored with the color of your iPad 2? Wish you could change it to something more unique? Now you can, as ColorWare begins taking orders for reimagined iPad 2s.
ColorWare offers a high-quality skinning process for the iPad 2. With the company’s “design studio” users can customize the iDevice’s Apple logo, back panel, and home bottom from a selection of color combinations. You can also have them delete the Apple logo altogether, if you want.
Finishes come in Gloss, which is smooth to the touch, or in SofTouch, which is a matte finish that feels like velvet.
However, the ColorWare process doesn’t come cheap.
A 16GB or 64GB Wi-Fi model will set you back $900 or $1100, respectively. Wi-Fi + 3G models are also available priced at $1030 and $1230. With these, you can also change the color of the iDevice’s antenna at no extra charge.
For $400, ColorWare will reimagine your existing iPad 2, using its Coloring Service Only option. ColorWare will still accept original original iPad orders too, assuming you already have the iDevice. The price: $350. Naturally, you'll have to ship your iPad to them for this service.
Whether you are purchasing a brand new iPad 2 or sending them your existing iDevice, the service takes Each service takes four weeks between the time the order is placed to when your item ships.
Although many may be turned off by ColorWare’s price, it really is an amazing service, especially considering they use a polymer-based coating that will not come off during normal use.
