Apple Working On Way To Disable An iPhone's Camera At Live Events? [Updated]

June 16, 2011
Like taking videos at live events such as concerts with your iPhone? Apple has plans to end the practice according to The Sun. Apple is said to be working on a new technology that will sense when people are trying to take video of live events. When that happens, the iPhone’s camera will become disabled until its users leave the location. According to The Sun, this new technology is:
“Seen as an attempt to protect the interests of event organisers and broadcasters who have exclusive rights to concerts.”
There is no timeframe on when Apple will implement such a system. However, Apple filed a patent for the technology in 2009. Although Apple's plan includes disabling an iPhone's camera, users will still be able to text and to make calls at the live events. This is a strange story and to be honest, we haven't heard this one before. Also, please keep in mind The Sun is a tabloid, so who knows. However, if this is true, doesn't this cross some sort of line? After all, we own our iPhones and shouldn't we be able to use them as we please? For me personally, if Apple begins turning our iDevices on and off without our approval there could be hell to pay. I believe this would be Big Brother in the worst possible way. With that being said, I don't really believe Apple would do such a thing. Sure they have the power, but they wouldn't possibly use it. Right? What do you think? Leave your comments below.
