An App That Could Change The World
June 4, 2011
Ever the activist, the U2's Bono has a message for iPhone/iPod touch owners: Get involved and make the world a better place. To do that, @radical.media has released the ONE Campaign app.
Unlike other organizations that ask for money, ONE’s goal is for people to organize and/or fight for certain causes.
It attempts to do so by relying on this simple moniker: Get The Facts. Get Connected. Create Change.
According to its iTunes page, the ONE Campaign app helps people to:
Get the Facts: Knowledge is power. The ONE App gives you instant access to information on proven projects that are saving lives, helping put kids in school and improving futures. The app also keeps you up-to-date with daily content, photos, videos and push notifications for breaking news. Get Connected: Join the ONE movement on the go and engage your social network to mobilize your friends. The ONE App is the only pro-social app that allows you to track and share your poverty-fighting actions and see what actions your ONE friends are taking in real-time. It’s also the only app that helps members communicate with each other in the field, meet up at events and connect with local organizers. Create Change: With a few taps on your iPhone, you can call your member of Congress, meet up at an event or sign and share a petition – powerful tools that add your voice to the 2 million ONE members advocating on behalf of the world’s poorest people. By raising our voices as one, we can persuade political leaders to create and fund effective projects and policies that fight extreme poverty and preventable disease.Current calls for action include:
- Call The White House to tell President Obama to fund vaccines for children in poor countries, which includes a script to use when calling
- Getting A Rotavirus In Check that celebrates a success story
- Pittsburgh One Volunteer Meet Up to be held on August 3.
