Free Dragon Remote Microphone App Arrives, Won't Work With Mac

June 13, 2011
Users of Nuance Communication’s Dragon NaturallySpeaking application can now use their iPhone as a wireless microphone. The free Dragon Remote Microphone app was just released into the App Store. The software and app provide speech recognition solutions for individuals, students, and businesses alike. Instead of using the microphone that comes with the retail version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking Version 11.5, users can now use their iPhone or iPod touch 4th generation iDevices. Unfortunately, the app only works with the PC and not Mac version of the software. To run the app, a PC and iPhone must be on the same network and connected via Wi-Fi. According to the app’s website page:
To make it easy to prepare your device to find your computer, the Dragon Remote Microphone Application supports Bonjour, a network protocol for Windows that allows your device to automatically find your computer. To determine if Bonjour is already installed on your computer, or to download it, visit http://www.apple.com/support/bonjour/. If Bonjour isn’t available or functioning, you can manually enter information about your computer into the Dragon Remote Microphone application.
In other news, Nuance and Apple are expected to announce some sort of partnership in the next few months that will bring voice recognition technology to iDevices. Although missing from the iOS 5 beta released last week, Nuance technology is rumored to be included in an internal build of the OS. The Dragon Remote Microphone app is available in the App Store.
