Google Chairman: Apple Is "Not Responding With Innovation, They're Responding With Lawsuits"

July 19, 2011
Former Google CEO and now executive chairman Eric Schmidt recently criticized Apple saying its smartphone lawsuits are inspired by jealously and a lack of innovation. Schmidt made the comments at Google’s Mobile Revolution conference in Tokyo, according to Jennifer Dudley-Nicholson of Perth Now. In comments made after the U.S. International Trade Commission made an initial ruling that HTC infringed on two of Apple’s iPhone patents, Schmidt stated:
"Because they are not responding with innovation, they're responding with lawsuits. We have not done anything wrong and these lawsuits are just inspired by our success."
The HTC phones in question use Google’s Android OS. In making his comments, Schmidt said that Google would continue supporting HTC in its fight with Apple and was confident of a win. The ITC is expected to make its final decision on the matter in December. If HTC were to lose, it could naturally have some impact on Android’s future profitability.
