Monkube Has A New Title In The Works For iPhone That Merges Comic With Game

July 25, 2011
You may know Monkube as the developer of the iPhone Lunar Lander-like game, 6th Planet. The game is known for its wonderful presentation, great arcade action, and comic book cutscenes between game chapters. It looks like they are in the midst of producing another "fusion between game and comic," as the Monkube website states, in the form of their upcoming game, The Adventures of Retrobot. The game appears to be an on-rails shooter with side-scrolling elements, where you shoot up into the sky at enemies. What's interesting, however, is we are not even sure how Monkube is involved with the title's development. This is because, Monkube gives the development and publishing credit to other parties. "Hot on the heels of 6th Planet comes a game made together with Canadian iOS developer Endeavor Bros and comic book publisher Ape Entertainment," according to the Monkube website. What is probably occurring, is that Monkube will be the iOS publisher, and is just working together with different developers and comic book publishers. According to a Touch Arcade review of 6th Planet, they also worked with another comic book publisher on the cutscenes. "The game's comic-book cut scenes were created in part by Vivifilm, an Oscar-nominated production company who worked on, among other things, Les Triplettes de Belleville, and the colorist has long worked with Marvel," Touch Arcade states. Whether this game will have the same quality and charm of their previous iOS outing, remains to be seen. However, you can be the judge for yourself as here is the trailer (via Pocket Gamer):
