AlbumTrackr Is Nice Product For Mac, Free For A Limited Time

For those looking for a quick, simple, and cheap way to find the most current albums by your favorite artists, we suggest checking out AlbumTrackr, a recent addition to the Mac App Store. Created by Quantic Fox, the application scans your iTunes library and then lists the latest albums for each artist. This listing is arranged by Artist, Latest Album name, and Release Date. By default, each album is sorted by release date with the most recent albums displaying first. Once you find an album you’re interested in seeing more about, click on the “Buy Album” button. From there, you’ll be sent to iTunes where you can preview and/or buy the album. The best part of this application is what happens when you are actually listening to music through iTunes. Each time a song is playing, AlbumTrackr will include the latest album information by the artist via a popup that appears for a short period of time when each song begins. The popup includes a photo of the latest album by the artist, as well as an “Add To iTunes” link. This is a terrific tool for those of us that like to buy music on the fly. Really, AlbumTrackr is that simple. Keep in mind, however, it does come with limitations. For one, it scans your iTunes library each time you open the application. Depending on the size of your music collection, this process could soon become very annoying. Our recommendation is to open the application once and leave it opened. Second, scrolling each album using the keyboard’s up and down arrows doesn’t update the artwork and information of the album highlighted. To do so, you must actually click on the album’s name using your mouse. Finally, if you’re music collection resides on an external drive, you’re out of luck. The application WILL NOT work in this situation, at least with this release. Overall, we recommend AlbumTrackr, mainly because it comes with a terrific user interface and does exactly what it promises and no more, no less. And, for $.99 you really can’t go wrong. Best of all, for a limited time, the application is available for absolutely free in the Mac App Store, which makes downloading it today really a no-brainer.
