Tiki Golf 2 ($1.99) by Arb Studios LLC is an extreme mini golf game that pushes the limits of what a tiny ball and a metal club can achieve. In the sequel, Tiki Bob takes on a whole new playing field, complete with new friends and new adventures.
Tiki Golf 2 mixes putt-putt golfing, physics and platform gaming together in one amazing game. You can choose from four different Tiki players, eight clubs, eight different golf balls, four different levels, each with 18 holes, and a variety of achievements that unlock customizable bonus abilities. The graphics are beautiful and the style is clever. The gameplay is smooth and easy to figure out. The controls are both touch-and-tap, and tilt, making the game that much more challenging to play.
To play the game, you must aim your shot by touching and swiping the screen. Once you feel comfortable with the angle, you tap the “hit” button. A distance bar will appear which allows you to determine how hard you want to swing the club. Once you hit the ball, you can tap and hold the screen while tilting your iDevice to steer the ball in the direction you want it to go. There are items to pick up along the way that help you unlock the bonus abilities and power boosts to help get you to the end. Just like in real putt-putt golf, there are plenty of obstacles that get in the way. You will have to avoid swinging hammers, loop the loops, ramps and all manner of things getting in the way of a hole in one.
The game still has a few bugs to work out. For example, using an iPhone 3GS, the load screen is excruciatingly slow and the main screen seems to be lacking proper touch sensitivity. This should not affect gameplay though. Nothing else seems to be affected.
Overall, this game is just as fun and exciting as its predecessor and offers plenty of extra adventure to keep the game from being too similar to the original. It is reasonably priced at $1.99 and won’t disappoint fans of mini golf gaming.
