Infographic: You And The iPhone 5
September 26, 2011
For the first time since June 2010, Apple is about to launch a new iPhone. As such, the folks at iPhoneinCanada have released an interesting new infographic about the typical iPhone owner and how that relates to the upcoming iPhone 5 launch.
In terms of U.S. customers, 48.6 percent of iPhone owners use the most current handset, the iPhone 4. Another 28.2 percent own the still-available iPhone 3GS, followed by 19.3 percent that have the iPhone 3G. A small 3.9 percent still own the original iPhone, first released in 2007. Of those, 75.5 percent purchased an iPhone through AT&T, versus 19.5 percent for Verizon.
So, who will purchase the iPhone 5?
Largely, this depends on which iPhone model someone currently owns. Surprisingly, the newer your iPhone, the more likely you plan on switching. This suggests there will be a lot of iPhone 4 buyers in line for the iPhone 5. Conversely, original iPhone buyers could sit this one out – again. Finally, a longer battery life is the number one reason people are likely to switch (15 percent), versus 11 percent looking for an unlimited plan, and another 11 percent hoping they can upgrade without a long-term contract.
Strangely, just 4 percent said they were simply looking for an iPhone with a newer design. Check out the infographic and tell us what you think (click here to enlarge).
