You May Soon Find Spotify Music Service In Other Apps Too

September 1, 2011
Spotify, the high-profile streaming music service, has released a new API called ‘libspotify.’ With it, third-party iOS developers can write applications that will have the service inside the app, according to news first reported by TechCrunch. Launched in the U.S. earlier this summer, Spotify has a catalogue of more than 15 million tracks. At last count it has “over 15 million (“closer to 20 million”) users in total, across Europe and the U.S." Libspotify for iOS is available to Spotify Premium users now. However, developers should know that the API is only for non-commercial use. In other words, you cannot make money off the apps that include the API. For more information on the Spotify API, including the download, developers are encouraged to check out this page.
