Monster Magic ($0.99) by Secret Headquarters, Inc is an engaging action game similar to Doodle Jump. You must tilt to move your monster as you constantly bounce upwards from platform to platform. But be careful not to fall!
My first impression of this game was of the graphics. They are very colorful and vivid, adding even more depth to the game itself.
To play, just tilt your iDevice to land on the platforms. As you bounce higher and higher, collect all of the coins you can. You can later use these coins to purchase power-ups in the store, unlock more worlds, and purchase new playable characters.
There are also many different power-ups you can collect during the game. Some make you jump higher, some slow down time, and some will flip the game, completely disorienting you. This is where it becomes more creative and different than typical jumping games.
You can bounce your monster around in four different worlds. However, you must collect a certain amount of coins before unlocking each world; only the first is unlocked initially.
There are cute sound effects in this game, but oddly enough, there is no music while you are actually playing — only when on the main screen. I would suggest adding music to the actual game as it makes playing more enjoyable.
One thing I don’t like is that, once in a while, an ad pops up, prompting you to buy another game. It’s not too intrusive, and doesn’t happen very often, but I don’t believe paid apps should have any advertisements in them.
Monster Magic is available in the App Store for only $0.99. It is a universal app that comes with Game Center support — unfortunately, no achievements though (only leaderboards).
This game is very easy to pick up and play for a short amount of time or for a longer period. I would recommend getting this one.
