Apple Gives MobileMe Customers A Friendly Warning

February 23, 2012
For those remaining MobileMe customers, Apple has a message for you: Upgrade to iCloud or else. In a recent email message to MobileMe customers, Apple encourages members to upgrade to the company’s new iCloud service or risk losing important data.  To make the transition as smooth as possible, Apple includes a “Move to iCloud now” link within the email. By clicking on this, the MobileMe to iCloud upgrade begins automatically, regardless of whether the user is on a PC or Mac. MobileMe closes down on June 30. After that date, the service will no longer be available. First launched on Oct. 12, iCloud includes most of what MobileMe offers, plus the company’s new Photo Stream service, among other goodies. Unlike MobileMe, iCloud is absolutely free. iCloud includes:
  • Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Bookmarks, Find My iPhone, and Back to My Mac
  • iTunes in the Cloud
  • Photo Stream
  • Documents in the Cloud
  • Automatic downloads and purchase history for apps and books
  • Backup and restore
  • iTunes Match (by subscription)
Retired MobileMe products include iWeb publishing, Gallery and iDisk. For more information on the MobileMe to iCloud transition, check out Apple's F.A.Q. page. Have you avoided upgrading to iCloud so far? If so, why?
