Join The King’s Empire And Become The Ruler Of The Middle Ages
King's Empire (Free) by Tap4Fun is a real-time strategy massively multiplayer online (MMO) game for the iPad and iPhone/iPod touch. Build your city to its fullest capacity and overthrow your neighbor to become the ruler of the kingdom.
Players are given a well-endowed servant woman and a kingdom, right from the start. The servant woman will show the player how to regain citizens and soldiers and how to rebuild a recently destroyed city. With time and patience, the city becomes a force to be reckoned with once again.
The first ten or so quests focus on rebuilding the devastated city. All buildings must be rebuilt from scratch and then upgraded. For example, the first building you must construct is the living quarters. Once complete, the city’s citizens will return to begin working again. Workers produce wood, iron, stone and wheat. All of these things are necessary to build and upgrade the rest of the city.
As the city is rebuilt, more resources are needed, more warehouse space is required and more soldiers must be trained. Goods can be bought and sold in the market. The warehouse can be upgraded to house more supplies and soldiers can be trained and dispatched.
Once trained, soldiers are sent to attack nearby camps, towns, villages, and eventually, the cities of real life players. Alliances can be joined that will help protect each other in times of war. These alliances are created and moderated by real players.
The graphics are high quality and look fantastic on the iPad’s large screen. The quests and missions are easy. Most of the time, players will not get bored while waiting for their buildings to be constructed. There are times when all soldiers are away, the maximum amount of construction is taking place and all possible sales have been made, but that just means it’s time for a snack break.
The only problem with this game is the chat room. Most chat rooms can get ugly when there is no proper moderator, but this one seems especially bad. There are players who seem to have nothing better to do than say rude or offensive things. To make things worse, other players will feed into the offender’s ego by saying, “that’s offensive,” or “I’m going to tell on you.” Unfortunately, there is no option to turn off the chat window, so all players, including children, see the foul language and offensive statements.
Other than an un-moderated chat window that is usually offensive, the game is great. There are lots of missions every day that will earn gold and resources. Alliances will help win wars against other real-life players. For those wanting to solidify their city without having to wait, gems can be bought through in-app purchases which will allow for additional construction queues, sped up building times and other bonuses. There is a deluxe version of this game for $9.99 that offers $20 worth of special items. However, the free version offers plenty of action without the need for gems.
Fans of strategy and building games will enjoy King’s Empire. The graphics are clean and high quality. The gameplay is structured without being too challenging. The ability to make alliances with other players turns this app into a proper MMO. Pick up this free, universal version in the App Store today.
