Motorola Forces Apple's Hand, Will No Longer Offer iDevice Push Technology In Germany

Apple today announced it has removed iCloud and MobileMe push capabilities for its customers in Germany. The move is the result of Motorola’s successful injunction there over cloud syncing push technology, according to AppleInsider.
For the time being, German customers will no longer be able to receive iCloud and MobileMe email through push. Instead, they’ll have to access their email by loading the mail program on their iPhone/iPod touch or iPad.
The push email service on non-mobile products is not affected by Apple’s decision.
Apple's solution to the push service stoppage is as follows:
For iCloud Mail:
- On the Home screen, go to "Settings" > "Mail, Contacts, Calendars."
- Tap "Fetch New Data."
- Select a scheduled time to fetch new data.
- The "Push" setting must be turned on in order to ensure the continued push for contacts and calendar service.
- On the Home screen, go to "Settings" > "Mail, Contacts, Calendars."
- Tap "Fetch New Data".
- Select a scheduled time to fetch new data.
- Tap "Advanced."
- Select a MobileMe account from the accounts list.
- Tap "Fetch" under "Select Schedule."
- Tap "Advanced" to return to the previous screen.
- Repeat steps 5-7 for other MobileMe accounts on your device.
Once users access MobileMe from Germany to their MobileMe mail account, the push e-mail service will be disabled until further notice. In contrast to the iCloud Mail Push service also leaving Germany is not reactivated automatically. MobileMe users can transfer their account in iCloud, so that the push service is functioning properly, as soon as they are located outside Germany.Apple is appealing the Mannheim Regional Court decision that concluded that Motorola owned the rights to push technology in Germany. The case by Motorola was first filed in April 2011.
