Save The World With PaperKarma
February 10, 2012
Every once in a while a new discovery, invention or simple idea comes about with the potential to change the world. PaperKarma by Readabl may just be one such idea.
PaperKarma has positioned itself as the Captain Planet of the App Store. While it isn't quite able to "take pollution down to zero" it is planning to make a darn good effort.
The premise of PaperKarma is a simple yet powerful one. The next time you receive a physical piece of junk mail in your mailbox you just need to pop out your iPhone, take a quick photo of it and let the fine people at PaperKarma do the rest.
Whether your junk is a catalog, a flier or a credit card offer doesn't matter to PaperKarma, it's all fair game.
So how does the app work? It's really quite simple. After taking a picture of the offending item and hitting the "Unsubscribe" button the information is sent, with your details given during registration, to PaperKarma, who will then match this information back to their database and send an unsubscribe link or email to the company that sent it.
Currently the app only works in the United States so I've not had a chance to check out how successful this effort is, though the company's blog does report some quite impressive results.
Can Captain Planet hang up his spandex and finally retire leaving PaperKarma to take care of the planet or is this just going to be a drop in the ocean? Let me know what you think in the comments below.
