Sony Bringing Streaming Music Unlimited Service To iOS

March 22, 2012
Sony’s Music Unlimited service is coming to iOS. The streaming music service arrives for the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad in a few weeks, according to TechRadar. Launched in 2010, Music Unlimited allows users to listen to music tracks across a variety of connected devices, including HDTVs, Android-based smartphones, Blu-ray players and PlayStation 3. Now, Sony customers will be able to use the service on iDevices as well. Says Shawn Layden, COO of the Sony Entertainment Network:
"We want to be on as many devices for users who want to be part of Music Unlimited."
In January, the service had one million active users and a catalog of 15 million tracks, according to Hyperbot.com. Asked whether the arrival of Music Unlimited would affect the relationship Sony has with Apple, Layden stated that, “Sony music is still part of iTunes – there is no change in that.” Currently, Music Unlimited is available through two subscription plans; Basic ($3.99/month) and Premium ($9.99/month).

Sony's Unlimited Music service heads to iOS

Of late, iPhone and iPad owners have had a growing choice of streaming music providers. In addition to Spotify, which arrived last year, iOS customers can choose from Pandora Radio, Slacker Radio and Rdio, among others. Once Sony’s Unlimited Music service arrives for iOS, we’ll be sure to check it out and let you know what we think. So, would you be willing to tryout Music Unlimited or have you already selected a streaming music service?
