The Sound Sofa - Just Because You Can Doesn't Mean You Should

April 12, 2012
I am all for multi-purpose accessories. Cases that double as stands for iPads are my favorite, and pretty much anything that has another built-in something will typically appeal to me. However, sometimes mixing two things just doesn't work out. There may not be any consequences to combining two things, but just because you can, doesn't mean you should. The folks over at CSL didn't get that memo when they decided to create the Sound Sofa. The Sound Sofa, which starts at about $1,600, is a sectional sofa that features built-in speakers that offer 2.1 stereo sound. The couch can pump out your music from the built-in iPhone/iPod dock, SD card slot, USB port, or using Bluetooth connectivity. Available in several different colors, this corduroy couch can also be configured to a size and configuration of your liking. Here's a full description of the Sound Sofa, as stated on the CSL website:
  • The Sound Sofa has a built-in iPod/iPhone dock, usb port, SD card slot, bluetooth connectivity and boasts 2.1 stereo sound. Bluetooth connectivity means it´s perfect for gamers and iPod/iPhone dock means you can not only listen, you can charge your device while sitting comfortably in your living room.
  • The Sound Sofa is the perfect place to charge and dock you iPhone, instead of getting stuck down the side of the sofa you will know where it is at all times! and it will be fully charged at all times too.
  • The Sound Sofa comes with three built in speakers which fills your room with sound. Housed in a corner unit of the sofa, the speakers don´t take away from the comfort. If you are listening to music, watching a film or even playing video games the Sound Sofa will make the experience even better.

Spending the price of three iPads isn't worth the supposed inconvenience of not being able to dock my phone in my couch. Having your couch be the sound system at a party wouldn't make much sense either. "Hey! I love this song! Turn up the couch!" I don't see one real, justifiable benefit to owning the Sound Sofa, but to each his own. Currently the Sound Sofa is only available in the United Kingdom, but if you'd like more information and ordering options, visit the CSL website. Will you be purchasing a Sound Sofa? Or, will you just sit this one out?
