TV English Premium Brings Television To Your iPad

April 22, 2012
Honestly, I don't watch much TV. There's enough reality in my personal life, and for everything else, I have Netflix. However, for those of you that do enjoy television, TV English Premium ($0.99) may be for you. Like the name implies, TV English Premium is a universal application that allows you to stream English language TV channels to your iDevice. This app is pretty straightforward: Once you launch TV English Premium, you're presented with a list of supported channels. Under each channel listing, you'll see what is currently playing. Once a stream begins, you can pause any program to resume watching later, and even AirPlay the video to your television. As stated in the app's release notes, the complete channel listing is as follows:
  • Animal Planet HD
  • Comedy Central HD
  • Bio HD
  • Disney XD HD
  • ESPN America HD
  • MGM HD
  • National Geographic Wild HD

For a one time fee of $0.99, you get a nice variety of channels. I should mention that in our preliminary testing (iPhone 4S and new iPad), some of the HD channels were fairly buggy and every now and then a stream would freeze. This could be attributed to Wi-Fi speeds, but according to early reviews, some users are having the same issues. Fortunately, for the channels that do work (all non-HD channels as far as I can tell), it's a nice experience. Of all the TV-steaming apps I've seen, TV English Premium takes the cake. TV English Premium is available for $0.99 in the App Store. Will you be downloading this app and ditching your TV? Or is it missing some of your favorite channels? And considering this is pretty illegal, Apple will probably pull it soon. UPDATE: As we said initially, the HD channels don't seem to be working properly, or just show an ad. But all others are working great for us.
