World's Strongest iPhone Auto Mount Passes Stress Test Without Breaking A Sweat
April 26, 2012
I've written about NKMOS' automotive smartphone mount once or twice (or thrice!) in the past, and it seems that -- after enduring its fair share of financial heartaches and heroics -- Nik Conomos' Ultima is finally ready for primetime.
With a little over two weeks to go before its successful Kickstarter campaign comes to a close, the machined aluminum accessory has nearly tripled its funding goal, collecting over $30,000 in backing.
For those holding out on the windshield mount for fear the suction cup wouldn't or couldn't live up to Nik's lofty claims, check out the following stress test:
Ultima's Kickstarter page has also been updated with more test footage and shots of the product's finalized design. Plus, to make sure your Ultima will fit any modern handset you might have on hand (although why you'd settle for anything other than iPhone is a mystery to me), Nik's also including a thicker backing mat with every pledged purchase. You even have the option to buy extra suction cups! Of course, if the above video is anything to go on, I can't see how you'd ever actually need one.
Look, I've been through enough crummy, plastic car mounts in my day, and I'm sick to death of the things plopping off my windshield and dropping my iPhone at every hopped curb or speedy turn or slammed brake. I didn't get a 4X4 pickup for nothing, and I need something metal that can stand up to all that heavy rock and roll. I can't wait for my Ultima!
If you want to get yours for the special Kickstarter price of only $55, you better move fast. Orders placed during the remainder of the campaign are scheduled to be shipped in July.
