Skweek (Free) by Freshuu Inc. is an arcade game where colors battle it out for the ultimate power. Turn this blue planet back into its preferred color of pink by sending Skweek on a dangerous adventure.

Players control a fuzzy little alien creature named Skweek. He lives on a pink planet, but evil invaders turned the world blue. Your job is to change every square of the planet back to pink. Every time Skweek walks across a tile, he sprays something out of somewhere that turns the spot he crosses pink. To make him move, touch him and drag your finger to a new location. Skweek can move up, down, left, and right across the tiled course.

Each level is full of dastardly enemies that want to stop Skweek from turning the planet back to his favorite color. Luckily, the little alien has firepower. To shoot, tap a few squares away from Skweek in the direction you want to aim. If it doesn’t hit something on its way out, the ammunition will ricochet off of an adjacent wall and hit anything in its path on the way back.

Players earn gems for completing levels that can be used to buy power ups. Most gems are fairly expensive, which is where the developers can make their money. However, from my experience there is no need to spend real money on in-app purchases. I was able to play the game just fine without feeling pressure to buy gems.

Once you run out of lives and your game ends, you can resurrect Skweek by spending 300 gems. Without resurrecting him, you will have to start the game over from the first level. I’d say that, if there were any reason to buy gems, it would be to resurrect Skweek so that all your hard work doesn’t go to waste.

My only real complaint about this game is that it is difficult to control where Skweek moves. Players must practically put their finger right on top of the character in order to get him to move around. If you try to place your finger too far away, he shoots instead. Because my fat fingers were always in the way, I couldn’t see if Skweek was about to run into an enemy or fall off a cliff. This game would work much better with a virtual joystick.

This is a good old fashioned arcade game. You don’t get to continue unless you add more coins. Your goal is simply to stay alive. The look may be different, but the concept is the same. Even though in-app purchases are an option, players can definitely get by without spending a dime. If you like classic arcade style gaming, check this app out.
