Time magazine is out with their annual list of the Top 10 gadgets of the year. Not surprisingly, the iPhone 5 tops the list. The list also includes other goodies Apple users love, but also some surprising omissions.
The iPhone 5 is praised as “melding hardware, software and services so tightly that the seams fade way.” In doing so, Time says that “Apple still has no peer,” in the smartphone market.
Other Apple, or Apple-related products on the list include:
The 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display is ranked No. 6, with Time calling it a “joy to use.”
Coming in at No. 9 is Nest, the intelligent thermostat created by former Apple executive Tony Fadell. Time says that “rarely has anything so mundane been so engaging.”
Also, Microsoft’s new Surface with Windows RT is also on the list. The laptop/tablet combination device is ranked No. 7.
Surprisingly, Apple’s new iPad mini and fourth-generation iPad failed to make the list. And no, the short-lived iPad 3 also didn’t make the list.
The Top 10 is as follows:
- iPhone 5
- Nintendo Wii U
- Sony Cyber-shot RX100
- Raspberry Pi Model B
- Apple 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display
- Microsoft Surface with Windows RT
- Samsung Galaxy Note II
The iPhone 5 isn’t the first Apple handset to make Time’s annual list, but it is only the second to top the list. The first to do so was the original iPhone way back in 2007.
In 2011, the iPad 2 topped the list, as the iPhone 4S came in at No. 4. The year before, the first-generation iPad was No. 1, while the iPhone 4 was No. 6. In 2009, the iPhone 3GS was listed No. 4; in 2008, the iPhone 3G finished No. 3.
