Self-Published 'Breakout Books' Now Featured In iBookstore

February 5, 2013
Apple is showing some love for those who self-publish. The company has unveiled a new section in the iBookstore entitled, “Breakout Books,” according to The New York Times. The books, which will be featured on the iBookstore’s main page for at least two weeks, range in price from free to $3.99. After that time, “Breakout Books” will remain a permanent feature on the site. According to Mark Coker, the founder of Smashwords, a leading distributor of digital books, "Apple is helping to shape a brighter, more democratized future for book publishing." The featured books are organized into four categories: Romance, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Mysteries & Thrillers, and More to Explore. At launch, there are 70 books in the section. Source: The New York Times
