Yahoo Buys Summly, The News App Created By A 15-Year-Old

March 25, 2013
The news-reading app, Summly, is now part of Yahoo, as is its now 17-year-old founder, Nick D’Aloisio. Originally released for iPhone in December 2011, the free app summaries news in less than 400 words. As part of the announcement, D’Aloisio confirmed that Summly is no longer available in the App Store. He states, however that the Summly technology “will soon return to multiple Yahoo! products." Says Yahoo:
Nick and the Summly team are joining Yahoo! in the coming weeks. While the Summly app will close, you will see the technology come to life throughout Yahoo!’s mobile experiences soon. So stay tuned!
Summly was one of Apple’s Best Apps of 2012. D'Aloisio was just 15 when the app was released. Financial details of this acquisition have yet to be announced.
