New App Enables AirPlay Mirroring For Android Devices

December 13, 2013
If you currently own an Apple TV and an Android device, we have exciting news. CyanogenMod developer, Koushik Dutta, recently announced a new app (via Engadget) that will allow you to mirror your Android device to Apple TV. The app is called Mirror and it's also capable of recording your screen, but the AirPlay feature is a major breakthrough for cross platform compatibility. Currently, Mirror is in an open beta, but your device will need to meet a couple of requirements first. Mirror is only compatible with Android 4.4.2 and requires root access. If your device meets those two requirements, you can access the open beta by joining the CyanogenMod community on Google+, joining the beta program, and downloading the app from Google Play. If the links are giving you any problems, try going through the steps on a computer. If you'd like to see Mirror in action, check out the video below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnP2XUZwXD0

As mentioned above, Mirror does require root access, but hopefully not for too much longer. Koushik is currently working on a solution that will work without root, but at the moment, there's no way around this requirement. I'd love to see more cross platform development like this. In the long run, it's beneficial to everyone involved, especially consumers.
