Dropbox competition? Amazon Cloud Drive app launches for iOS

So, you are a big user of Dropbox, but also have tons of items stored in the Amazon Cloud. Well, Amazon has launched their new Amazon Cloud Drive app for iOS. So, you can now access all of those items right from your iPhone or iPad.

Amazon Cloud Drive MainAmazon Cloud Drive features

  • View files and folders easily
  • Preview items quickly
  • Watch videos and listen to music right from the app
  • Share your items as a link or attachment via email, text message, or social media

How well it works

You can access your documents and other items easily, but the app seems to be lacking the ability to upload files. It would be nice to be able to upload a photo or video from your device directly from within Amazon Cloud Drive app. Photos that are added to Amazon Photos do appear in the app quickly, though. I was also hoping to see my music from the Amazon Music Cloud Library within this new app, but it does not appear. However, when I uploaded items via the Amazon Cloud Drive website, then I was able to access and play them on the app. Additionally, you cannot add, delete, or edit folders within the app. This must also be done on the website.

Amazon Cloud Drive Share Amazon Cloud Drive is universal available for free on the App Store. The amount of storage space you receive depends on your plan. For Amazon Prime members paying the yearly $99 fee, you have unlimited storage for photos and 5 GB for videos and files. Non-members can purchase this plan for $11.99 yearly or receive unlimited storage for $59.99 per year.
