The quick shooting app isn’t a new idea. There are several variations on the theme, but each promises better or different features from the rest. Fastest Camera shines by allowing you to decide what balance you want between speed and quality. It also has settings for three, five and 10 shot burst modes along with low, medium, high and HD resolutions.

The proof, as they say, is in the pudding. I was unable to find a cheetah in pursuit of a wildebeest, but luckily I found quality, fast moving substitutes in the form of my one year old son and a local hockey game.

My wife’s birthday landed on a day that she had to be out of town so I did the classic have the baby hold a sign that says happy birthday. I will say that even though the resolution was a bit lower, I wouldn’t have been able to capture a smiling baby with a readable sign without Fastest Camera (even if he was eating the sign).

I used burst mode during the hockey game and was satisfied with the results. Pictures didn’t turn out blurry as I feared they would. Most camera apps automatically save photos, as they are taken, to the iPhone camera roll. Fastest Camera opts for its own roll with the option of transferring the pictures you want to the camera roll later. This might seem like a redundant step, but I found myself in favor of it as it saves your roll from being filled with burst mode pictures that you don’t really want.

The menu and graphics aren’t the prettiest, but they get the job done. One issue I did have is that the buttons take up a significant portion of the screen so it is difficult to see what will be at the bottom of your picture.

Fastest Camera is a good alternative to other quick shot camera apps. It feels a little cheap but offers much more customization and features than the competition. If speed is what you are looking for, Fastest Camera is a good choice.
