In a survey conducted by Penguin Intelligence, 28.5 percent of Samsung smartphone owners in China say they want to switch to an iPhone after the Note 7 battery fiasco.

The survey of around 20,000 current Samsung owners found that about 70 percent said they plan to switch to another brand. Huawei leads the pack at 42.5 percent followed by Apple at 28.5 percent, and then OPPO at 8.5 percent. When Galaxy Note 7 users were asked if they would buy another Samsung product, 54.2 percent of respondents said they would.

Still, this is all bad news for Samsung.

The Samsung Galaxy Note was in a class of its own. Sure, there are other smartphones with big displays, but what set the Note apart was the S-Pen and its capabilities. I have met many Note owners who absolutely love their phone and would prefer to continue to use the Note for the foreseeable future.

Boom

Boom

That said, there’s no mistaking that Samsung did not take the proper steps to ensure the Note 7 was safe both before it shipped and after they recognized a serious problem. It’s a shame and now they’re paying the price.

It’s too bad Apple didn’t make a mini Pencil that was compatible with the new iPhone 7 Plus. Maybe we’d see even more Note owners gravitating towards the iPhone.
