Verizon buys Yahoo
First, it was AOL. Now Verizon has purchased Yahoo. The telecommunications giant announced on Monday that it would acquire the struggling technology company’s core business for $4.8 billion.
According to USA Today,
“Verizon’s acquisition includes Yahoo’s operating business — advertising technology and popular online content such as Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Finance and Tumblr — as well as the Yahoo brand and real estate attached to the core business including Yahoo’s Sunnyvale, Calif. headquarters.”
No word yet on whether Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer will stick around following the acquisition.
Microsoft cuts Xbox One price, again
Just days before the company’s Xbox One S arrives, Microsoft has dropped the price on the current model. The Xbox One is now available for $249.
This is the third price cut in less than two months for the gaming console, according to The Verge.
The Xbox One S arrives on Aug. 2.
“iPhone 7” release date leaked?
Well-known mobile phone leaker Evan Blass has predicted that Apple will release the “iPhone 7” and “iPhone 7 Plus” on Friday, Sept. 16.
Just to clarify, this refers to the retail release, not the launch event. To be even more specific, it should happen on Friday, Sept. 16th.

If Blass is correct, this suggests that Apple is planning to announce the 2016 iPhones on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
Last year, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus arrived in stores on Friday, Sept. 25, after an unveiling on Sept. 9. One year earlier, Apple announced the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on Sept. 9. Those handsets arrived on Sept. 19.
