Escape The Cave (Free) by David Xu is an arcade game where you have to reach the exit while avoiding the walls that are covered in spikes. It sounds pretty straightforward, right? Well, it would be a lot easier if you could actually see the walls that you’re trying to avoid.
You’re in a cave, and you’re trying to reach the exit. When the level begins, you can see all of the obstacles that are in the room. As soon as you move your helmet icon towards the exit, the obstacles in the room are no longer visible. They’re still there, but you can’t see them. You have to make your way to the exit without hitting the walls based on your memory of what the level looked like before you started.
Luckily, you can take your time memorizing the room. The obstacles don’t disappear until you start to move the helmet. You can move your finger along the path you want to take to get a feel for it before you actually begin.
There are boosts that can help you along the way. You can use a flashlight to help you see a short distance ahead of you. You can use a flare to see the entire room for a short amount of time. These boosts can be found scattered around the level, or you can buy them with the coins that you earn at the end of each round.
If you run out of coins, you can buy some through in-app purchases. You can buy 100 for $0.99, 350 for $2.99, or 600 for $4.99. You can also remove ads for $0.99. However, I didn’t see any ads. They don’t run while you play, and I didn’t get any pop-up ads either.
This game does a good job of challenging your memory and sense of direction. There are 100 levels that you can play through, and each room has a unique feel to it. You don’t feel like you’re just playing through the same puzzle over and over again.
