Apple to take control of your TV guide
It seems that Apple’s plan for television has changed yet again. A few years ago, the rumors were flying that Cupertino was set to launch an Apple-branded television set. When those plans died, we heard that Apple would launch a video stream service similar to the one offered by Sling TV.
On Thursday, Re/Code explained that “Apple’s new TV plan is a TV guide.”
They explain:
Apple has started talking to TV programmers and other video companies about creating a digital TV guide that would work on both Apple TV boxes and other Apple devices, like iPhones.
The idea is to let users see what kind of programming is available in video apps made by the likes of HBO, Netflix and ESPN, without having to open up each app individually, and to play shows and movies with a single click.
Hopefully, we’ll hear more about the Apple TV Guide at next month’s “iPhone 7” event.
