App Approval Process Becomes A Tiny Bit More Transparent

November 12, 2009

Apple recently flipped a new switch in the Dev Center that allows developers to see where exactly their app is in the black hole that is the app approval process.  At this rate of improvement, we should have complete app approval process transparency by 2015. Now when iPhone and iPod touch app developers log into the Dev Center website, they will notice a new area for app status updates.  Instead of the usual average wait time, developers will be able to see where their app stands in the approval process.  Apps will be listed as waiting for review, in review, or ready for sale.  That's pretty much it, however. Make no mistake, this is a tiny improvement over the previous system, but at least Apple has taken another step in the right direction.  This can only be viewed as good news, especially after we just recently lost the Facebook app developer, Joe Hewitt, to iPhone app approval rage.  Hopefully Apple will keep making these minor adjustments even quicker, so we don't lose any more of our beloved app developers.
