It took a bit longer than many of us expected, but the Facebook iPhone and iPod touch app finally features push notifications along with another welcomed addition, contact syncing.
Joe Hewitt did a great job making Facebook v3.0 one of the best free apps available, but his sudden departure from the project left us waiting impatiently for the highly sought after push notifications. Many turned to other apps to fulfill this need, most notably Boxcar, but now you will no longer have to fuss with a third-party app thanks to v3.1.
Facebook v3.1 allows you to customize when you receive push notifications. For example, you can set the app to notify you when you receive a new message, wall post, friend request, friend confirmation, photo tag, event, and comment all from within your settings. Facebook v3.1 is also able to sync with your iPhone’s address book, adding profile pictures to your contacts, if you so wish, and a link to their Facebook page for easy access.
So fire up the App Store on your iPhone or iTunes on your computer and get Facebook v3.1 right now!
Is anyone else not getting a sound with their push notification?

It takes a bit to hit all of the iTunes servers, so if you just wait it out, it should show up.
Nope. Nadda. Can we stop the email notifications now? Kind of annoying getting both, even if the email message gives an audible indication.
Yeah, good idea. Go to Facebook.com -> Settings -> Notifications Tab
sound is not working for me also, but i do get the notifications.
i have the same sound issue on gowalla notifications, but sound works for other apps that are also pushing them… i have no idea why this happens.

Yeah no sound here too, i think its not supposed to have it. the blackberry doesnt sound either.
but they should have included a sound alert and then gave us the option to disable it or not or maybe its a bug
Same issue here as everyone else – getting blue box notification, but no sound, vibration or badge updates! Is there a work around or do we have to wait for updates?

So @TUAW is reporting some users having problems with the syncing contacts function in what I assume is v3.1. Also noticed a new update v3.1.1 posted to the App Store which fixes syncing bug. So I’m waiting for this to clear up before updating. Meanwhile, I’m glad I didn’t pay for Boxcar’s FB service–knew push would come. Sometimes I think I’d like push for FB status updates, but then I’d just get all those damn farmville updates. Alright, maybe I just need to unfriend my friends who won’t man up and play a real game…
Still no sound/vibrate on my push for Facebook..?? Anyone knows if it’s suppose to be a mute alert with no sound or vibrate?

Yea i’m not getting any sound either, and i’m also not getting badges on the facebook logo app – and i turned of the blue box alert because it was annoying when I would get a text then a notification, but only see I had a facebook notification and ignore it to check it later not realising that I had a text underneath that!
