iPhone And iPad Apps Gone Free: iAssociate 2, Iced In, 1000 Ultimate Experiences, And More
June 1, 2010
Today's list contains four very entertaining iPhone and iPod touch games. It also features a travel book-like app for your iPad that was once priced at $20 but is now free for a limited time.
iAssociate 2 ($3.99 -> Free): The sequel to the hit word association game.
In the game you are given a single word with other unrevealed words attached to it. The idea is to simply come up with other words associated with the word in the middle. The unrevealed words have a number next to them indicating how many characters are in that word. If you are stuck on a word, there are a limited number of hints at your disposal, or you can take your question to Facebook.
The game features tons of different levels and categories, and online leaderboards to compare your skills.
iAssociate 2 is available for free today only (6/1).
Iced In ($.99 -> Free): A Blocked In-style puzzle game.
The goal of the game is to free the penguin from its cage by pushing buttons. Buttons can only be pushed down with ice blocks. You are able to push the ice blocks on top of the buttons by tapping and dragging your character, but the blocks, as with all Blocked In-style games, won't stop moving until they run into something, which is where the puzzle portion of the game comes in.
Iced In features 50 levels, aut0-save, and quick level restart in case you are stuck.
Iced In is available for free for a limited time.
Doodle Cross ($.99 -> Free): A simple puzzle game where you must cross out blocks.
Blocks must be crossed out two at a time in a horizontal or vertical row, never diagonally. Crossing is done by simply tapping and dragging your finger across two blocks. If you run into trouble and are unable to complete the level, you can quickly reset and try again.
Doodle Cross features 1,001 puzzles, easy to learn controls, and OpenFeint integration.
Spartacus: Blood and Sand ($2.99 -> Free): A bloody fighting game that allows you to go head-to-head against other hardened soldiers.
The game allows you to compete one-on-one against enemy AI or a friend via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth in a gladiator-style setting. Characters are controlled via an on-screen d-pad and three combat buttons: quick attack, block, and strong attack. Combos can be created with specific sequences of button taps and a move list can be accessed via the pause menu.
The game features three difficulty settings, eight characters to choose from, and modifiable game rules.
Spartacus: Blood and Sand is available for free for a limited time. This is actually the second time the title has gone free.
iPad only:
1000 Ultimate Experiences ($2.99 -> Free): An inspirational travel book-like app molded after recommendations from a best selling book by the same name.
The app features 1,000 different locations from around the world. The interface is set up like a deck of cards and you can scroll through and split the deck to find locations you are truly interested in. The app will display an image of the location along with a short blurb about it. You can also find out more about the location by following the embedded links, or share the location with a friend via email.
1000 Ultimate Experiences is available for free for a limited time to celebrate the beginning of the All Things Digital conference.
If you are going to download one and only one app today, you have to check out 1000 Ultimate Experiences. It's a nicely laid out app with lots of pictures and, to top it off, it was once priced at a whopping $20.
