Archetype Lets iPhone 4 Users See Headshots Like Never Before

July 9, 2010

Archetype, a newer FPS-style game, has been updated to add new graphics optimized for the iPhone 4. How does it look? Well, as the developer claims, "headshots never looked this good." Archetype is a great first-person shooter for the iPhone and iPod touch that gives you great single-player and multi-player action over Wi-Fi, 3G and even Edge. Archetype offers three game modes: Training, Challenge and 5-on-5 Team Deathmatch. There are six weapons, two grenades and five different maps. Players can set up a Deathmatch in seconds and "rank up" by earning EXP and medals as they play.

Gameplay is controlled by two on-screen joysticks which are customizable. Unlike many "on the rails" FPS titles for the iPhone, you have full control over your player's movements and actions with Archetype. With its most recent update, the developers added a revised HUD, as well as new graphics for the weapons and textures to take full advantage of the iPhone 4's high-resolution Retina display. For iPhone 4 owners, this is definitely an app worth having because of the upgraded graphics, a solid 4-star rating and a price tag of only $2.99. For those on older devices, it is still a solid multi-player FPS worth checking out.
