If you're an avid
Dropbox-using iDevice owner, then you simply must check out
Droptext: an iOS application that allows users to edit Dropbox files on their iPhone or iPad.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Dropbox (
http://dropbox.com), the site is a service that provides online backup and file sync for free. By downloading Dropbox on your computer (Windows, Linux, and Mac supported), users are effectively given an area into which they may "drop" files they wish to be made available online through Dropbox.
Files can then be retrieved by logging into the user's Dropbox account, either online or through the official
Dropbox app - which is free, but somewhat limited in the fact that it is a read-only application. This might have hindered users somewhat in the past, until now.
Unlike its older, cheaper, more official brother, Droptext isn't free - but it's not expensive, either. At $0.99 the application is a pretty easy-to-stretch-to purchase, and it's a universal app - meaning that you don't need one version for your iPhone and another for your iPad. One version may rule them all.
Droptext supports standard texts files, as you'd expect. But in addition to this, any file with a text-based mime type is also supported - such as HTML, PHP, or even C programming code. Currently, Droptext does not supports MS Word or any file other than those mentioned above. But keep watching: Dropbox is a new addition to the App Store, and in time, I'm sure its compatibility list will grow.
For $0.99, Droptext is a fantastic app to have running on your iPhone or iPad if you're a regular user of Dropbox. And if you're not a regular user, then
