The iPhone 4 Is For Porn?

July 30, 2010

Why do you think the iPhone 4 was born? When you consider the question, an infinite number of answers automatically pop into your head, right? Answers such as, to make calls. Okay maybe not - but texting, at least, and emailing, are definitely on the hit list. In addition to being a communications device, the iPhone 4 is also a rather sweet digital camera and HD camcorder. It's an iPod. A YouTube player. A Twitter-updater. A portable games machine. Essentially, the iPhone 4 can do a lot of things in a lot of different ways - which is what makes it a great phone. However, as 9to5Mac reports, one thing Steve and friends probably didn't envisage the iPhone 4 being used for is: porn. Yet now, that dark, dark, dream has just become a sparkling reality. According to the Associated Press:
When Apple Inc. launched the iPhone 4 and its FaceTime videoconference feature, it didn't take long for adult-entertainment companies to develop video-sex chat services and start hiring workers through Craigslist. With more than 3 million of the phones already sold, the adult industry stands to make big money on this new way to reach out and touch someone — even if it puts Apple, which has always taken pains to keep its iPhone apps squeaky clean, in an awkward spot. In at least five cities, Craigslist ads seek models specifically for video sex chat on FaceTime. Many of the ads even offer to throw in a free iPhone 4 for the new employees.
Oh dear, this isn't good. As the AP states: Apple has gone to extreme measures in keeping the App Store suitable for even the most prudish fanboy (such as the recent banishment of iChatr, which you can read more about here). Yet, this latest iPhone association with the immoral side of life might just have left Steve impotent. I guess until Apple comes up with a solution (if they can come up with one), we're going to have to realign how we view today's smartphones. Starting with the "Android phone is for porn" statement we've already heard so much about. In the meantime, Avenue Q fans might enjoy this hilarious take on the iPhone-Android-Porn triangle.
