iPod Touch Wall: It's Good, But It's No iPad Wall

July 22, 2010

Here's something for you that's cool, but totally pointless; FSM.com has posted a video showing the construction of welikesmall's iPod touch wall. And, even though the end result is about the same size as a half-decent flat screen TV, you can't help but be impressed with what welikesmall has managed to achieve. Indeed, the task itself was no mean feat; twenty iPods are connected to a USB hub, and communicate with one another through a Python/Django web server app which continually ensures that each iPod is synced. And, all in all, the creation took three weeks to build. Here's what welikesmall had to say about its curious invention:
Our current iPhone Application allows for 4 different modes, a screen saver mode, a full image split mode (the controlling iPod looks for an image and then the server executes a script to split that image among all 20 iPods), a single image grid mode (the controlling iPod tells the server to give a random image to each iPhone), and a hybrid mode which displays all three. In addition, the server is always checking to ensure that each iPod is synched.
