Kindle App Update Adds Built-In Dictionary And Improved Searching

July 30, 2010

Hot on the heels of Amazon's third generation Kindle announcement, the company has updated its Kindle for iPhone and iPad app to be more user friendly. The latest release of Kindle for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad lets you search inside of books when used on the iPad, plus even better searching within books for iPhone and iPod touch users. Look up definitions and other content for words, places, people, and more quickly using the new internal dictionary, Google, or Wikipedia. After launching the updated version, the app will automatically begin downloading a free copy of The New Oxford American Dictionary to your book library for use in providing the definitions.  Just tap and hold briefly on a word and a short definition will be displayed at the top.  Tapping on Google or Wikipedia links, however, will bring you out of the app. Finally, Kindle v2.2 improves line spacing when reading books on an iPad and general improvements with bug fixes for devices running iOS 4. Kindle for iPhone and iPad, as always, is available for free in the App Store.
