Overcommitted's Ember Campfire Client App Purchased By 37signals And Is Now Free
July 27, 2010
Big news for those using the group chat Campfire service. 37signals recently purchased, renamed, and re-released what was formerly Ember by Overcommitted. The bigger news, however, is that the new offering is now completely free.
What was Ember you ask?
Ember is a Campfire™ client that allows you to use Campfire by 37signals® anywhere you go. Now in a native iPhone app you can chat effortlessly with groups large and small.37signals apparently purchased the app because they were simply so impressed by it. That being the case, there were only a few minor tweaks done to the re-released version, and the name was changed to 37signals Campfire. For those unaware, 37signals is the original creator of the Campfire service and, therefore, this makes the new app the official Campfire app for the iPhone and iPod touch. 37signals Campfire features: • Multiple Accounts • Unlimited chat rooms: access to all your Campfire rooms • Live image previews right within the chat room • Inline viewing of popular file formats, Excel, Word, Powerpoint... • Transcripts • Ability to quickly toggle between chat rooms • Works with Free and Paid Campfire accounts • Landscape support • Upload photos • See the participants in the room • See and set the room topic • Individual room preferences for message notifications • SSL accounts are fully supported While Ember previously had a price tag of $9.99, the new 37signals Campfire is already available in the App Store and is absolutely free.
