ShopNShare is a quick and basic barcode scanning app for comparing online prices and sharing product information on your Facebook wall.
ShopNShare launches to a list of previously scanned items with a camera button to scan a barcode or a button to manually enter a UPC number. Once you've got the UPC entered, the app very quickly pulls a list of web sites that sell it, giving you the chance to compare prices and look up additional information.
Once you've found the best deal, tap on it to be brought to the retailer's site using the in-app browser. If you're satisfied with it, you can purchase the item or tap the Facebook button in the bottom right to bring up the add post to your Facebook wall form. As usual, you'll have a chance to enter in a message but below will be an excerpt from the product page and a link for your Facebook friends to follow.
What's so important about posting product information to Facebook? Get opinions from your friends about the product or even the retailer. Maybe you'll get a "Go for it!" or "I've purchased from them and I say check the local Target instead, they have the same price." Perchance you just purchased a pair of headphones at your local Wal-Mart and want to share the deal with your friends and family before they get sold out. Perhaps, you just want to gloat about that new computer and don't want to get all nerdy with spouting off a huge list of specifications.
The app is quick, I'll give it that. You can post a product to your Facebook wall in as little as 15 seconds. I'll admit there are some areas it falls a bit short. Some products aren't recognized, even after manually entering in the UPC number. I also noticed that some products only showed eBay Store results. Finally, I did run into a few sites that didn't transfer data to the Facebook add post form. To be fair, these aren't necessarily flaws in the app but sometimes just lack of product information and availability provided by certain online retailers.
