FaceTime Competitor Knocking Live Video To Get Update For iOS 4

We all know FaceTime is, and will always be, the go-to app for iPhone video calling; indeed, it would be impossible to deny Apple's service the crown it rightly deserves. But, interestingly enough, the realm of the App Store is still alive with applications ready to usurp FaceTime and take the throne for themselves. And, one such application - which does appear to offer an awful lot - is called Knocking Live Video. Now, before the prude in you begins to squirm with distaste, be aware that this is not another Chat Roulette-type application. Instead, Knocking Live is a legitimate alternative to Apple's FaceTime video calling service. And, what's more, it's a service that's available on iPhone, Android, iPod touch, and iPad - though the latter two can only receive video. Nevertheless, you can hardly deny that Knocking isn't a closed-off, iExclusive, FaceTime clone. Instead, it's available to a great many users from differing mobile backgrounds. And, according to TechCrunch, the application is due to gain an update to bring iOS 4 optimization.

Knocking Live also allows users to stream video over a 3G network, unlike Apple's FaceTime. The application compresses the video to decrease data consumption, which is another cool feature. However, a downside to Knocking Live Video is that the application isn't two-way. Instead, one user broadcasts video to another - a video conversation is not possible. This may be the one thing protecting the application from the wrath of Apple (we know how rival applications are quickly pulled from the App Store), and an update adding this feature is probably unlikely.
