Modern Combat: Sandstorm Now Harnesses The iPhone 4's Retina Display And Gyroscope

August 20, 2010
Gameloft enhanced the hit first-person shooter space combat game, N.O.V.A. – Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, by utilizing the iPhone 4′s glorious Retina display for gorgeous graphics and the gyroscope for improved motion control accuracy. Now, the company has implemented these improvements in another acclaimed title, Modern Combat: Sandstorm. The new gyroscope control option is, of course, only available on the iPhone 4, and it is in addition to the previous control schemes. Don't confuse this with the default mode of tilting and turning your iDevice to aim, using a virtual joystick to move around, and various buttons to shoot, throw grenades, crouch, etc. The default mode uses the accelerometer, which is found in every other iDevice. The gyroscope control is the same layout but instead of the accelerometer, it uses the more accurate motion sensing gyro. iPhone 4 users get another perk as well, and that is notably improved graphics that take advantage of the stunning Retina display. The rest of the iDevice family isn't left out of the action, as those running iOS 4 do get the fast app switching support. Modern Combat: Sandstorm brings you back to the heart of modern war. As a high ranking officer who recently recovered from a serious injury, you're called upon to join a new mission, Mission Sandstorm. Your group's primary objective is to seek out and destroy a newly forming terrorist group that is now enlisting new insurgents to its ranks. Your team is equipped with modern weaponry as you make your way to the remote hot spot of the middle east desert. Gameloft makes a note for those upgrading to this latest version.
If you have customized the game interface in the previous version, please reset it to be able to play with gyroscope. During a game session, go to Pause > Controls > Customize > Reset
