Documents To Go Premium's Revamped UI Makes For A More Fluid Mobile Office Experience

DataViz has taken user feedback to heart and released Documents To Go Premium v4.0. This update provides performance improvements, a revamped user interface, Retina display enhancements, and some new features. I find the new UI feels more fluid and natural for a mobile office productivity application, especially for iPhone and iPod touch users, closer to what one would expect in a desktop experience. The first thing you'll notice after updating is the former document navigation hierarchy has been changed to a revised category grouping system. The list of Local, Desktop, Online, and Recent used as a main menu prior to v4.0 has been converted into tabs selectable at the bottom of the screen. Settings and the universal search have been moved to the More section. Within each sub-app (Word To Go, Sheet To Go, etc), options have been taken from being displayed individually on a single line to being put in a more condensed and intuitive contextual menu system. For example, the first menu is your Save, Save As, Send, and Open In... options. You get a menu with alignment options, one with font options, and so on. These choices are no longer attached to the keyboard interface and are hidden when text editing, giving you even more viewing area for your actual document. Some new additions consist of Sheet To Go featuring freeze panes and sort. Freeze panes is a nice little feature added in Microsoft Office 2003 that keeps column headings or any other designated cells always in sight, even if you scroll far away from view. The new Word To Go now provides extensive paragraph formatting, like left and right indent, strike out, and a variety of bullet styles. Documents To Go Premium is a universal application compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. Version 4.0 does accompany a small price increase of $2, making the new price tag $16.99.
