Sean Kovacs' GV Mobile Finally Reappears - The Google Voice iOS App Race Is On
September 18, 2010
Patience and persistence seems to have paid off for some developers, as Google Voice apps have started to appear and reappear in the App Store thanks to recent App Store approval guideline changes. The first to hit was GV Connect, but perhaps the most anticipated is the return of Sean Kovacs' GV Mobile +, formerly GV Mobile.
The new version of GV Mobile + isn't quite the same as the original submitted over one year ago. It includes over two dozen tweaks and additions to go along with all of its original features:
• Dial numbers via the iPhone address book, entering on the keypad, or choosing from the internal favorites
• Send, retrieve, and delete SMS messages
• Retrieve and delete recent call history
• Playback and delete voicemails
• Take calls from different phones other than your iPhone
• Enable, disable, add, or delete the phones that Google Voice forwards calls to
Upcoming major features
• Push
• Alternate dialing
• VoIP is planned, but will take some time.
Be sure the "Multiple sign-in" feature on your Google account is disabled to prevent possible problems. GV Mobile + does not currently work with iPad. An update has already been submitted to correct this issue.
As most of you may already know, GV Mobile was removed from the App Store mid last year, but Kovacs didn't let that stop him, as he immediately made his app available through Cydia as a way to continue to offer his creation. But thankfully, this route is no longer necessary.
GV Mobile + is available in the App Store now for $2.99. This is considered a new app and owners of GV Mobile will not be able to just update to GV Mobile +. However, Kovacs did tweet a very interesting tidbit.
It we get #gvmobile trending, I'll set it to free for the night. Are you excited about the re-release or angry at the fact that you need to purchase the app again?
