iMatryoshka is a casual puzzle game that involves putting matryoshka dolls back together. A matryoshka, or otherwise known as a Russian nesting or babushka doll, is a symbolic item originally inspired by a Japanese doll set of somewhat similar nature that represented the Seven Lucky Gods. Normally the dolls have smaller and smaller dolls inside one another, some say representing a generic family tree.
Despite the history, a matryoshka doll comes apart in the mid-section and is painted to look like a person, however the artist is sparked. The object of iMatryoshka is to determine which two halves go together and combine them. To put two pieces together, use one or two fingers to move them around the gameplay area. A successful combination will result in the matryoshka disappearing into a cloud of smoke.
There are two game modes to choose from. Smooth mode pits you against a five minute timer to assemble as many matryoshka as possible. The Mad mode forces you to assemble them as quickly as possible. Instead of a countdown timer, Mad mode uses a stopwatch timer to test how long you can last. Matryoshka pieces continue to fall in intervals. If you aren't efficient enough, the gameplay area will fill up, and it's game over. OpenFeint achievements and leaderboards provide extended replay and competitive interest.
iMatryoshka is a universal app compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or later.
