The iPad lacks Apple's Clock app, but so many users have found themselves using it every night in bed and having it sit in a stand near their bed like a 9.7" digital photo frame. Because of this, an app category that has certainly taken off is the alarm clock. A recent addition to this list includes Everclock HD, which turns your iPad into a large display clock with up to four alarms, lava lamp-style plasma animation, and iPod-library music integration make it much more versatile and pleasant to use and view. Tap on the date and time to activate or deactivate the night (dimmed) mode, shake to switch plasma effect color, and tap on the colored dot below the time for settings.
The settings area allows management of the four alarms, 12 or 24-hour clock preference, choose one of five plasma effect colors, enable or disable the date display, and enable or disable the time display. Alarms can use one of five different tones or music from your iPod library. Using the built-in alarm tones will allow you to close the app and still be notified, however, this is not possible for iPod music; it's a Push notification limitation.
If you want a cool decor piece during the day, switch to the 24-hour clock option, then disable both the date and time. After exiting the settings area, you'll find that you now have lava lamp looks with next, previous, play, and pause controls for the music.
iPhone 4 users have access to a couple other nifty features. When using the app in night mode, a "Night Light" option becomes available. To activate or deactivate the iPhone 4's LED flash as a night light, just tap the circle above the date and time. The iPhone 4's LED can also be used to provide an extra annoyance to get moving when your alarms goes off. When enabled for an alarm, the "Alarm Light" option will flash the LED along with your alarm tone or music.
