Confirmed: Apple Has Sold One Million Apple TVs

December 28, 2010
Recently, Apple announced that it expected to have sold one million Apple TV devices before Christmas. Now, the company has confirmed this achievement to John Paczkowski, of All Things Digital. Interestingly, Apple recently labeled Apple TV "the perfect iOS accessory." Additionally, it was noted that AirPlay has contributed to the sales:
Now with AirPlay®, recently available in iOS 4.2, users can wirelessly stream their music, video and photos from iPad™, iPhone® and iPod touch® to their new Apple TV, making it the perfect iOS accessory. Users can also control Apple TV with their iPad, iPhone or iPod touch using the Remote app, available as a free app on the App Store℠.
Apple TV's $99 price tag also makes the product incredibly appealing. However, various analysts have noted that the overall annual revenue generated by Apple TV sales will hardly be impressive. Shaw Wu with Kaufman Bros. called the recent Apple TV sales figures "positive, but fairly immaterial." If Apple manages to sell one million Apple TV units per quarter, Apple Insider notes that $400 million in revenue will be generated by Apple TV sales. While this might sound like a lot, do remember that Apple is expected to make a massive $88 billion in 2011. Did you buy an Apple TV before Christmas? If so, let us know in the comments!
